연남동 마을시장: 여름 끝 시장 Village Market in Yeonnam-dong (28 August, 2016)

지난 주말엔 여름 내내 손꼽아 기다리던 '연남동 마을시장'에 다녀왔어요. 원래 매달 중순경에 열리는데 이번에는 더위를 피해서 마지막 주에 열렸어요. 마을시장은 연남동에서 한 달에 한 번 열리는 동네 잔치인데요, 2년 전에 제가 그린 마트료시카(러시아인형)을 들고 참여한 적이 있던 마켓이기도해서 더욱 애정이 가요~

I visited the village market in Yeonnam-dong last weekend what I've waited for so long during the summer time. It's usually held about the middle of every month but this time it's opened at the end of August to avoid the heat. Yeonnam village market is a small festival among residents in this town, I especially love this market cause I once joined this market to sell the Matryoshika(Stacking russian dolls) I drew.

일요일 아침 느즈막히 일어나 장에 갈 준비를 할 때마다 마음이 설레입니다. 저와 비슷한 성향의 사람을 만난다는건 언제든 기분 좋은 일이니까요. 또 어떤 아이템과 음식들이 제 마음을 사로잡을지 궁금해지기도 하구요.

I wake up little late on Sunday morning, I feel excited when I prepare to go to market. Every time it's good to meet people who have similar tendency like me, also I'm curious about what kind of stuffs or foods would captivate me this time.


자 그럼 연남동 마을시장 구경 시작해볼까요?

OK then, let's have a look!

손그릇들은 언제보아도 정겨워요. 이 그릇엔 어떤 음식이 어울릴까 어떤 상차림이 어울릴까 생각하다보면 발걸음을 떼기가 힘들어져요. 이 셀러분들은 문호리 리버마켓에도 참가하신다고 해요. 조만간 리버마켓에 갈 예정인데 가서 반가이 인사드려야겠어요.

Handmade potteries rouse a feeling of warmth. I drag my feet as I think about matching the dishes, foods and plate decorating. These sellers told me that they go to river market in Moonho-ri reguarly. I have a plan to visit there soon, I would give them a big hello :)




책과 CD도 중고장터에서는 빠질 수 없는 아이템이죠

Books and CDs are items that cannot be missed in flea market.

She was the best handcrafted artist of the market I chose.
Look at the lovely Parasol she knitted! wow I'm speachless..






제가 연남동 마을 시장을 유달리 좋아하는 또 다른 이유는 마을 주민들이 마주보며 인사를 나눌 수 있는 장이기 때문이에요. 평소에 골목에 주차된 차들을 비켜주고, 시장이 열리는 동안 붐비는 인파의 소음 등 주민들이 불편함을 감수해주는 협조가 있는 장이기 때문이기도 해요. 그래서 그 마음이 느껴져 시장을 즐기는 내내 마음이 훈훈하고 따뜻해집니다.

The another reason why I especially love this market is that is the place where the people can say hello face to face. In addition, the people cooperate voluntarily during the opening hour. For example, moving and parking the cars in other places and enduring the noise from crowds. That makes my heart warm while I enjoy the market.

몇일 전 친구가 물었어요. '넌 왜 마켓을 좋아해?'라고..

One of my friends asked me few days ago, 'Why are you fond of markets?'

긴 대답보다는 연남동 마을시장에 함께 가면 그 친구도 느낄 수 있을거에요. 따뜻한 웃음과 나누는 정과 사람사는 냄새를 느끼기 위해 마켓에 간다고.

No need a long explanation, She would know why if she visit this market in Yeonnam-dong. I go to markets to see warm smiles, feel shared hearts.




올해 여름은 유난히 길었어요. 냉장고의 수박과 에어컨이 풀가동되는 카페로 시선을 돌려보아도 어쩐지 의욕이 나지 않는 계절이었어요. 하지만 심신이 더위에 절여지는 날이 계속되다보니 물에 풍덩 빠져들고 싶은 충동을 느꼈나봐요. 이제서야 그동안 물을 무서워하던 제가 수영을 배울 수 있는 기회를 잡기도 했네요.^^

The infinite hot summer has gone finally! I tried to overcome the heat with watermelon in the fridge or staying in fully air-conditioned cafe, but my body and soul were gradually melting down.. Suddenly I had deep impulsion to dive into the water so it was the time to learn swimming to overcome the heat and my traumatic aquaphobia at the same time. That was a good thing in this long hot summer for me.^^

매미 소리가 그치고 바람결이 다시 시원하게 바뀐 것을 느끼지만, 그 즐거움도 잠시,
좀처럼 지나가지 않는 더위에 투덜대기도 하고, 갖가지 방법으로 건강하게 계절을 나기 위해 노력했던 지나간 여름이 다시 그리워집니다.

The sound of cicadas stopped and cool breeze came again, it brought such joy for a moment. I miss the summer time passed by again.


마켓의 계절 가을입니다. 발걸음을 더욱 총총히 다녀야겠어요.

Here we are in autumn, the season for markets.
My steps will be little more busy.

마르쉐 @ 명동 <꿀+향> Marche at Myoungdong honey-scented (23 July, 2016)

지난 주말 명동성당에서 열리는 마르쉐 장터에 다녀왔어요.
마르쉐는 그 단어 자체가 프랑스어로 '시장'이란 뜻인데, 한국에서는 대표적인 도시형 농부시장 이름이 되었어요~ 이번 주제는 <꿀+향>으로, 꿀벌이 꽃의 향에 끌리듯, 그 달콤한 향에 이끌려 찾아가보았지요~ 그럼 함께 구경하실래요? ^_^

I visited the Market 'Marché' held in Myongdong Catholic Cathedral last weekend.
'Marché' means 'market' itself in french, it's also the name for the representative urban farmer's market in Korea.  The main theme was <Honey + Fragrance> this time, so I went there followed the sweet smell like honeybees attracted by flowers.




이번 행사는 '어반비즈 서울'과 함께 하는데요, '어반비즈'는 도시에서 꿀벌을 키우면서, 우리의 삶에서 꼭 필요한 꿀벌이 사라지는 걸 막고 꿀벌의 중요성과 가치를 위해서 활동하는 단체라고 해요.

'Urban Bees Seoul' cooperated closely this event. It is an organization which helps to save the honeybees from extinction and  and actives for importance, benefits of honeybees by beekeeping in City.

장터 한 켠에는 다양한 종류의 꿀과 설명이 전시되어 있었어요. 아주 연한 노란색부터 진한 흑색까지 고운 빛깔과 향으로 하나하나 다 맛보고 싶었어요!^o^

Variety of honey and their descriptions were put on display at one side of the market.

They were all different colors from light yellow to dark brown and smells too. I would like to taste all of them one by one!

대신 지인찬스로 라오스에서 공수해온 '석청꿀'을 맛볼 수 있었는데요, '석청꿀'은 바위 틈에서 채집한 질 좋은 야생벌꿀이라고 해요. 귀한 꿀이라 그런지 더 맛있게 느껴졌어요~

Instead, I had an opportunity to taste 'Wild honey' from Laos, the honey was collected from the rock crevice. I felt more tasty cause it is rare and high quality.





장터 구경의 묘미! 시식이 빠질 수 없죠~
크래커에 찍어먹는 꿀맛! 정말 맛있더라구요~ㅎㅎ

Don't forget to try small samples on the plate. That is the charm of touring markets!

왁자지껄 북적북적, 여기는 도시형 농부시장 마르쉐 입니다.
요즘 날씨가 많이 무더운데 실내에서 열리는 장터라 냉방이 시원해서 구경하기가 더 수월했어요.

Crowded, boosted, here we are in urban farmer's market, Marche.
It is bloody hot and humid nowadays, but this is a fully air-conditioned indoor market so it was pleasant to look around.




농부 아저씨가 직접 따오신 햇옥수수도 잘 팔리구요~

Newly harvested corns by the farmer were selling well.




어? 여기도 옥수수가.. 옥수수가 제철이긴 한가봐요~
참, 신기하게 생긴 참외를 봤는데 처음엔 애호박인줄 알았는데 개구리참외라네요.
맛이 궁금했지만 선뜻 사진 못했던..ㅎㅎ

Ah? There were another corns cause this is a corn season.
I've seen the weird things, I thought kind of zucchini but they were named 'Frog melon'. I even did not recognize they were melons.
I was wondering how the taste like, but I didn't readily buy...

어때요? 달달한 꿀 향기 전달이 좀 되었나요? :)
이번 행사 중 도시양봉에 관한 워크샵은 듣지 못했지만 다음에 기회가 되면 꼭 한 번 듣고 싶어요. 이렇게 마르쉐 구경을 하면서 벌꿀에 대한, 그리고 나아가 꿀벌이 우리와 함께 살아갈 수 있는 환경에 대한 관심도 높아지게 되었어요.

I delivered the sweet scent of honey?  Can you smell it?
I unfortunately couldn't attend the workshop about urban beekeeping but I would like to if I have a chance next time. I am more interested in honey, furthermore the environment where we live together with the honeybee after visiting the market.



마르쉐는 혜화동 마로니에 공원, 양재 시민의 숲, 명동성당 이렇게 여러장소에서 한달에 2번 열리고 있어요. 생산자와 소비자가 직접 만나는 이런 활기넘치는 시장에서 신선한 농산물도 사고 다양한 행사도 즐겨보세요~^^

The market 'Marche' is held in the Park Marronnier in Hyehwadong, the Citizen's Forest in Yangjae, Myongdong Catholic Cathedral twice a month. Why don't you enjoy the various events and buy some fresh agricultural products in this lively direct dealing market?

옷드꾸뛰르 Second-hand clothing market in Hapjeong(10 July, 2016)

                            Haute Couture? No! Ot(Clothes) de Couture!

'옷 드 꾸뛰르'라니.. 참 이름도 절묘하게 잘 지었죠. 

우리가 잘 알고 있는 프랑스어 '오뜨꾸뛰르'의 뜻은 

Haute(높은) + 꾸뛰르(재봉, 의상실)의 합성어로

주문 제작으로 디자이너에 의해 만들어진 고급 맞춤옷이라고 해요.

마켓 주최자 설명에 의하면 '옷 드 꾸뛰르'는 

'값은 떨어졌지만 격은 떨어지지않은 옷들이 있는 중고 옷시장'이라네요.

사실 전 이런 식의 말장난 참 좋아하거든요.

언젠가 누군가는 내게 '말장난 그만 좀 해!'라고 한적이 있을 정도로요..

유치하지만 떠올리면 피식 웃음지어지는 저한텐 그런 귀여운 유희에요.

지난 일요일 30도가 넘는 한 낮의 땡볕을 헤치고 '옷드꾸뛰르' 마켓에 다녀왔습니다!

'Ot(Clothes in Korean) de Couture'... What a superb name! 

We are already familiar with the french expression 'Haute Couture'.

It is a mixed word of Haute(High) and Couture(sewing)

refers to the creation of exclusive custom-fitted clothing.

The host of this market explained about 

the name of 'Ot(Clothes in Korean) de Couture'

means that it is a second-hand market of less-price but still classy clothes.

Actually I like this kinda pun very much.

One day, someone ever talked to me, 

'Stop playing with words!'

I know it is a bit childish but cute game for me.

So when I think of it, I smile and giggle to myself.

Anyway.. I've been to the market ''Ot(Clothes in Korean) de Couture'

last Sunday, in the sizzling summer hit over 30 degrees.^^

합정과 홍대 사이 한적한 골목에 위치한 MEALS HOUSE.

비밀스러운 이 곳은 평소에는 와인바로 운영되지만,

콘서트, 플리마켓, 원데이 클래스 등 다양한 행사를 주최하는 공간으로도 활용되고 있어요.

The venue was 'MEALS HOUSE' located in the quiet alley 

between Hapjeong and Hongdae.

This place is usually used as wine bar,

also offers a number of events such as concerts, flea market, one-day class etc.

문을 열고 들어가면 주렁주렁 걸려 있는 옷들이 한 눈에 들어와요.

주방에서는 고소한 알리오올리오 파스타향을 풍기고 있었구요.

그 다음 들어오는 셀러와 손님들간의 시끌벅적한 대화들, 그리고 흥겨운 음악소리.

와우! 한적한 동네 속 멋진 공간에서 신나는 마켓이 열리고 있었어요.

When I opened the main door, I could see the plenty of clothes hanging on the wall.

smell the aglio e olio pasta from the kitchen

 hear the conversations between sellers and customers and the delightful music.

Wow! I found the exciting market in the awesome place in this peaceful area.

 Bienvenue a Paris!

파리로 직행한다는 지하 계단으로 내려가 보아요.

아래층에도 예쁜 중고 옷들이 가득가득~

We go down to the basement straight to Paris.

You can see there are large number of pretty second-hand clothes as well.

옷 고르는 안목 있어 보이는 멋쟁이 아가씨 

하나하나 꼼꼼히 살펴보네요^^

The fashionable mademoiselle was taking a good look one by one.

지하 공간에서 내다보는 창밖 풍경은 평화로웠어요. 

평소에는 초콜렛 클래스, 프랑스 자수 클래스 등 원데이 클래스가 열리는 공간.

This space underground is opened for one-day class

 of making chocolate, french embroidery.

The view out of the window was peaceful..

혼동속의 자유로움, 흐트러진 배열의 어우러짐.

완벽하지 않아도 좋아. 그 자리 그대로에서 넌 빛날 수 있어.

The freedom from chaos, the symphony of scattered arrangement,
it's telling me that

'It's ok, you don't have to be perfect. You shine as you are.'

이 구두를 신고 보드게임과 만화책이 들어 있는 이 요술 여행가방을 들면

잠시 파리 마레지구의 어느 중고 옷가게로 순간 이동할 것만 같아요.

I imagined that I could teleport to second-hand clothing shop 

in the Marais district in Paris if I wear these shoes 

and pull this magic suitcase with board games and comic books.

P.S. 초록색 원피스 구입 후에 달려와서 라벤더 방향제를 건네준 셀러언니.

당신은 라벤더 향기 나는 사람일거라는 생각이 들어요.

P.S. The seller handed a perfumed sachet of lavender after I bought a green dress,

You must be a person scented lavender.

좋은 사람들과 함께한 '옷드꾸뛰르' 마켓,

앞으로 한 달에 한 번 열릴 예정이라고 하네요.

다음엔 저도 안입는 옷들을 모아서 셀러로 참여하고 싶어요~!!

I enjoyed with the good people in this market.

I've heard that it's going to be held once a month from now on.

I would like to join as a seller with no more wearing clothes next time!

달시장 Moon market in Youngdeungpo - fun night market for family! (24 June, 2016)

모두 주말 잘 보내셨나요?^^ 지난 주에는 멀리서 조카가 놀러왔어요.
여섯살난 조카와 어디를 놀러갈까 하다가  한 달에 한 번 열리는 '달시장'에 갔어요. 매달 마지막 주 금요일에 열리는데요, 이름도 참 예쁜 '달시장'은 달이 뜰 때 즈음 열린다고 해서 달시장이랍니다.^^
맞벌이 아빠, 엄마도 퇴근길에 아이 손잡고 들를 수 있는 장터라서 더 좋은 것 같아요.

Did you have a good weekend? My nephew came from far last week. Happy! =)
So I was keep thinking about where to go with this 6-year-old boy and we finally went to the 'Moon market' held once a month. Moon market which has such a pretty name opens around the time when the moon rises. It's good for working couple spending time with their kids I think.






달시장이 열리는 장소인 하자센터에 들어서면 아이들이 놀 수 있는 타이어 놀이터와 물감 도구들이 있었어요. 아이들이 신나게 뛰어노는 모습만 봐도 기분이 절로 좋더라구요.

Threre were many tires, paints and brushes in the playground in front of the Haja Center, the venue of moon market. It was pleasant to see when the children run and play.

먹자골목에는 장을 구경하면서 허기진 배를 채울 수 있는 각종 음식들을 팔고 있었어요~

There was a food alley at the corner and they sold many kinds of light meals.
Let's have a look!

내 가족이 먹는 음식처럼 정성스럽게 만들어 주는 요리사님들.

The chefs made dishes and beverages just like foods for their families.

미술심리상담사가 아이들과 대화하며 미술심리상담를 하고 있었어요.
아이들 마음을 그림을 통해서 알아볼 수 있는 치료법이라 병원이 아닌 놀이처럼 아이들도 거부감없이 재미있어하고 좋은것 같더라구요.

There was a table for Art phychotherapy, the therapist were counseling with children through the pictures. So it was not scary hospital for children and they were easy to get into it like a play.

커피초상화를 그려주는 청년도 있었는데요,
커피초상화는 에스프레소를 물감처럼 사용해 초상화를 그려준답니다.
참 아이디어가 독특하죠? 그림에서 은은한 커피향도 나고.. 색이 점점 어떻게 변해갈지 궁금하네요!

We met a young man who draws portraits using espresso of coffee as a paint.
what a brilliant idea! The drawing may smell like coffee.. I'm wondering how the color changes later..

한 켠에서는 아이들이 아빠에게 '달달엽서'를 쓰고 있었어요. 달시장의 '달'이 두번이나 들어가는 달달엽서는 아빠에게 전하고 싶은 이야기를 쓰는 엽서였어요. 아이들 너무 귀엽죠?^^

Kids were writing 'daldal postcard' to their daddy. They could write something they want to say but it's hard to tell face to face. 'daldal postcard' means 'sweet postcard'. so cute!


다음 달시장은 7월에는 쉬고 8월 26일에 열릴 예정이라고 해요!

정릉 개울장- Stream Market in Jungreung (11 June, 2016)

요즘 마을 커뮤티니의 활성화와 지역 살리기 운동으로 

이런 소소한 장터가 많이 생겨나고 있어요~

시장 여행을 좋아하는 저한테는 너무 반갑고 기쁘답니다.

그 중 하나인 정릉시장 내 개울가에서 열리는 개울장을 가보습니다.

There are many little markets everywhere 

to activate the regional community and revive local economy. 

As a marketholic, I'm so glad that I could find these markets easily these days. 

I've visited the Stream Market near the stream in Jungreung market.

4호선 길음역 출구에서 정릉시장으로 가는 마을버스를 타면 입구 앞까지 갈 수 있어요.

You can get to the entrance of the Jungreung market 

by little green bus from the gate no.3 of Gireum station(line 4).

시장 입구로 쭉 걸어들어가 노란 물고기들을 따라가면...

Going strait into the entrance, then following the yellow fish on the floor...

오밀조밀 테이블이 개울가에 나란히 줄지어 손님을 기다리는 개울장을 만날 수 있어요.

You can reach the stram market waiting for people
with the table all setted alongside of the stream.

갑자기 비가 쏟아지기 시작하고..
셀러들은 물건을 덮기에 바쁘고 사람들은 다리 밑에서 비가 그치길 기다려요.

It was pouring rain all of sudden,
the sellers were busy to cover the items,
the people were waiting for rain stops under the bridge.

소나기가 그치고 다시 활기찬 분위기를 띈 개울장.

After the shower, the market was getting cheerful again.

초상화를 그리는 예쁜 아가씨도 방긋.

 The beautiful lady drawing portraits smiles.

예쁜 쿠키를 구워온 언니의 마음도 예쁠 것 같아요.

황토 염색한 손수건 말리는 중. 아이들과 해볼 수 있는 재미난 체험이에요.

dyeing clothes by red clay is the good experience with kids.

개울장은 개울가에서 열리기 때문에 엄마들은 장을 보고 

아빠와 아이들은 이렇게 개울에서 첨벙첨벙 물놀이를 즐길 수 있어요!

Dads and kids could enjoy playing in a stream while their moms enjoy shopping. :)

인디 가수들의 공연이 분위기를 더욱 살려주어요~
